Another Record Day!

May 1st, the last day for AR testing, broke the record for checkouts from the previous day. A total of 685 checkouts in just this one day. Unbelievable! The picture pretty much tells the whole story. All day long there were long lines and returned books kept stacking up. I wonder why students wait until the last two days to test? The AR was setup for use since day one, but many students don't test and when the end of school draws near they are in a desperate rush to earn points. Maybe when they see the nice prizes being awarded at the end-of-year assembly they will remember next year to start testing early. The top AR readers for the year were announced today and the students were told they could continue testing until the end of the month, but the points will be carried over to next year.

Whew! What a Day!

Today in the Elementary Library, a record was set for circulation. Total checkouts for today was 533. Never before had it reached 500 on a daily checkout. Students were busy checking out books for last minute research and for AR testing. They are well aware that tomorrow is the last day for Accelerated Reader testing for the year so it was a busy place. With this many checkouts, it can only mean one thing. I have this many books to put back on shelves. The library is a mess but at least the students are reading. It was also busy at the seconday library. The students are working on research projects. With the library being closed most of the year, research that is mainly done in March is just getting under way. Students will have to cram to be able to get all work finished before the grades close for the year.

Who Will Be Top Readers?

On Tuesday, May 1st, at 2:00 p. m. is the final cut-off for the Accelerated Reader Program for the year. Pictured at left are the 5th Six Weeks Top Readers. Students with the most AR points at each grade level will be the top readers for the year and will receive either a bike or a 1GB IPOD shuffle. Students may continue testing in AR until the end of the year but the points will be added to the next year's total. The winners will be recognized during the end-of-year assembly on the last week of school.

Class Visits

On Monday, the Pre-K and Kinder classes visited the library in celebrating National Library Week. The Librarian read Joe Haye's new book The Gum Chewing Rattler and Grandma Spoils Me. The students were very attentive and enjoyed the visit to the library.
